Picking up (collecting / harvesting) and processing Litchi in Madagascar is a very particular and in some way quite a complicated process. Since we are talking about Litchi, which is not collected from plantations, farms or greenhouses, but grows wild in forests, we must be aware that the whole year process (collecting, processing and shipping) is narrowed to two months (November and December).
Picking up Litchi has not changed much in the last 50 years. It is still a work carried out by local families and village communities (around 3000 families) who divided the work according to the region they live in. Collecting centers (such as SODIFRUIT) buy products from them. In many cases, our company partly pays products to individual collectors before the start of the season and thus ensures its quota and quantity!
In a way incredible, but year-round work in connection with Madagascar Litchi is more or less preparation for just two months, where most of the work is done.
Because of this, and due to restrictions on so-called quotas that restrict exports across different countries, we have to carry out all orders (at least) a few months in advance.
All orders must be confirmed and guaranteed, by April at the latest.
Delivery of Litchi to customers begins every year in November and ends in December (a strict 60-day period)! Departure sea-port is Tamatave (Toamasina).
